Why Motif exists

Most finance apps count. Motif listens.

You don't need another app telling you to stop buying coffee. The problem was never the coffee.

The real question is: what were you feeling when you bought it? Boredom? Reward? Social pressure? That's where the pattern lives.

Motif was designed with psychologists. It observes, reflects, and lets you decide what matters.

Why we built this

For ten years, I managed information systems for large companies. Organized, structured, rational. And every evening, I bought things I didn't need. Clothes I never wore. Gadgets I forgot about within a week. It wasn't a money problem — I earned well. It was something else, and I couldn't name it.

It took therapy to understand: I was compensating. Stress, boredom, the feeling of not being enough — I was patching it all with purchases. As soon as I started observing the link between what I felt and what I bought, things shifted. Not overnight. But the fog lifted.

I wrote a book — 1 Tom — a dystopia about technology that controls instead of serving. It forced me to ask: what would a tool that truly serves look like? One that doesn't track, doesn't judge, doesn't optimize you. One that simply reflects.

That's what Motif is. Not an app to fix you. A mirror, built with psychologists, to help you see what's already there.
